History of Bhutan
The archaeological history of Bhutan starts as early as 2nd century but we didn’t have proper evidence until 659 AD until after the arrival of the first Tibetan Buddhist master, the Tibetan king Songtsen Gempo. Buddhism started flourishing after the construction of the two oldest Buddhist temples popularly known as the Kichu Temple in Paro and the Jamba Lhakhang in Bumthang. After the arrival of popular Buddhist saint Guru Padmasambhava, Buddhism flourished further in the country in 8th century. There were several other Buddhist masters who have discovered treasure like Lam Phajo Drukgomshipo in the 12th century, Thangtong Gyalpo the great iron Bridge man in the 15th century and the most important historical master known as Lama Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in the 17th century.
